Southland Slashers Roller Derby League (SSRDL) is a flat track roller derby league based out of Godley, IL We are a skater run, not for profit organization. Roller derby is a structured, non violent contact sport which we are determined to bring to the southern suburbs of the Chicago region. We strive to offer skaters, from all walks of life, a safe environment for fitness, self empowerment, self expression and a support network of like minded people, volunteers and fans. We would like to embrace the spirit of community by supporting local businesses and organizations, promote charity and provide the community with culture and entertainment.
We have a broad range of people on our league; we are business owners, professionals, single working moms, and students, among other things. With that said NO experience is necessary to become an amazing roller derby player. If you have the dedication (or addiction in some of our cases), we will make sure you get the training. One of the great things about Roller Derby is that no matter what size or shape you are, there is a position for you.
The Southland Slashers is proud to be one of the few leagues in Illinois with a junior team and a newly forming men's team. Our team is also largely comprised of families, both blood and otherwise. We pride ourselves on having a very close knit league. We feel the stronger your bond off the track the stronger we will be on the track.
